| WALK ALONE (Favorite chant of Mahatma Gandhi) "Walk alone. If they answer not to thy call, walk alone; If they are afraid and cower mutely facing the wall, Open thy mind and speak out alone. If they turn away and desert you when crossing the wilderness, Trample the thorns under thy tread, And along the blood-lined track, travel alone. If they do not hold up the light when the night is troubled with storm, With the thunder-flame of pain, ignite thine own heart, And let it burn alone" Here are my older sister's personal thoughts as she read each word, and let it slide through her mind and down into her heart: "We each walk alone and we feel that. I'm speaking very personally here, of myself and siblings~and yes, our mother and others connected to us. We know what it is like to be left alone, to be rejected, to be cast-out, to be judged unworthy, to be labeled----by those who would say "I love you", whether it be parent, husband, children, or others who are or were important in our life. Some of us have suffered more, but who can put a level on suffering, or what it causes to the person going through it. We speak our pleadings alone. We meditate alone. We pray alone. We reach our soul, alone, and we connect with the divine, alone. We have been making a journey, and the easiness of self-deception, and mere perception has confused us; our comfortable rationalizations, our "shoes" have long ago worn out, and we are barefoot-we "feel" everything; but we do not give up.....we see the trail is nearly stained red with footprints of those who have gone before us. We travel with many; but we are alone. Darkness of the unknown and unclear, the confusion of interpretation and conjecture; and unanswered questions and delusions, has overtaken us and we have plunged into the depths of loneliness and depression; yet we have continued to rise back up and continue on our path. We allow the pain to remind us of what we are moving towards, and the pain ignites our hearts and souls, and shows us the true light there to guide us. The light may burn alone with each of us, even a tiny spark...and does not show but just steps in front of where we are. The flame is but a small part of a giant roaring fire that consumes us and never stops. We cannot stop. It is pulling us like a magnet. This.......is our life" Thoughts on Walk-Alone Written by K.L.Raymond 2003 |
