| Yesterday the 31st of July my mama was 78. My mate and I went to Bahia Honda Tues the 30th.We walked nearly 3/4 of a mile to reach the secluded spot where the HUGE drift wood used to be. I hadn't been there at the point since 93 with my beloved Ron. I have a cherished picture he took of me standing next to it. Anyways...my man huffed and puffed as he was carrying the ice chest with the beer and picnic goodies.I was loaded down with towels, blankets and it was a bit much but I was determined to reach the driftwood. I guess Hurricane George blew it away~ It was gone~ The two palms swaying in the breeze were a welcome site:) We laid everything out and ran for the crystal clear water. It was low tide and the deepest part even far out was mid knee:) Some folks came on a small turbo boat and sit up a huge umbrella in the sand~ smack dab in the water:) We floated and played while listening to the tunes of Van Morrison~Water-Water_Tubelo Honey. It was so wonderful and relaxing. About 5 hours later when the tide was coming in the guy said he had watched us and the terrible time we had getting to the point and offered to let us hitch a ride on the back of his turbo boat. All went well until the boat took in too much seaweed in the shallows and stalled. Huge stingrays were sailing by us and we had to get off the boat and walk in the water with all our stuff back to land. At least the boat had carried us a little over half ways:) The water by this time is getting deeper but we are able to let the ice chest float and it is easier walking in water then the hot sand. We passed persons laying out on the sandbars and we must have looked so funny.I told them that I was so happy that the water wasn't over our heads as with the extra weight we would have drowned.I joked with them and said huffing and puffing that our boat had capsized and we were fortunate to get out with a few of our belongings. They looked so amazed and shocked,I couldn't keep a straight face and told them "no just kidding". They roared with laughter. Then I put one of the bags over my neck and my sunglasses got tangled. He was ahead of me.That was a bit scary as I couldn't get untangled. He turned and seen my dilemma and rescued me from strangulation. When we got to the car and unloaded we went to take a fresh water shower, then walked back to the car only to realise he had left the keys at the shower. I walked back out to the beach and just stood there as the waves came in and went out.I let all my cares go out with the crashing waves, and good thoughts come with the oncoming rush of waves. I said my blessings and met him back at the car. Written by "zimba" Cynthia Rivera 2002-2011 |
